Maybe this isn’t such a bad thing. Or maybe one has to do with the other.

Roast Review: Sulawesi Tana Toraja Ke’pe

February 3, 2010

Sulawesi, an Indonesian island, is old. Really old. Like, 100 million years old. An old island with old, iron-rich soil that supposedly accounts for its delicious coffee. This particular offering, the Tana Toraja Ke’pe, is not as exotic as its locale might suggest, but it is a fine, albeit mellow, cup of coffee. Black cherry and almond stand out in the dry aroma of the fresh grounds which then gives way to amaretto in the final product. The acidity is almost non-existent until the end when the liquid begins to gently tickle the back of  your tongue and throat. There is a certain earthiness to the flavor, as well as dark chocolate undertones. None of these characteristics particularly stand out, but that isn’t such a bad thing.
